So over the weekend I was able to complete Cars Mater-National which wasn't on my backlog due to it being a viral game. It wasn't a bad game and it was pretty easy so I guess it was worth it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to work on any of the games I really wanted to work on but I'll keep pumping away at these viral games and at some point I'll be able to dive back into RAGE or some other game.

Next up on my list was Tornado Outbreak which is a really easy game with the exception of 1 achievement. In playing through the game last night I've basically beat the campaign and now I need to go back and just mop up. The last achievement I'll get is for completing all the bonus objectives which there are quite a few. Shouldn't be too bad though. I'm even going to recruit my 7 year old gaming partner. lol Afte that I'm going to jump back into Prototype 2 to see if I can knock that one out pretty quickly.

So I'm a bit anxious about Microsoft Retiring the Xbox 360 because I think my 360 is on it's way out and I've got too many games in my backlog to just not worry about them. Perhaps a lot of them will become backwards compatible but I'm not going to hold my breath. I'm thinking once I get through these viral games, I'm going to list my games and use Random.org to pick a number and that will be the game I work on. Or maybe I'll have it pick 3-5 numbers to give me a bit of variety. (obviously the boosting sessions will be excluded because I plan to keep taking part in those)

As April is coming to a close, it's that time again... what will the next Games With Gold offering be? Personally I'm hoping it'll be something I already own so that I can either turn in the physical copy or not have to worry about playing it. If I had to give my predictions... I'd go with Ryse or Dead Rising 3 for the Xbox One and probably something like Bioshock or one of the newly released backwards compatible games.

I missed the news about the 360 retirement... was busy being on vacation and playing catch-up at work. However, if you read it, all the support and services will still be there, but they are calling it quits on building new ones -- and I don't blame them. I wouldn't worry too much, I guarantee that GameStop will have an inventory of refurb consoles for quite some time, even after they sell out of their new inventory.

I'm always worried about buying a refurbished Xbox... I just have a feeling that it's going to crap out like a week after getting it. I'm wondering if they have some sort of service plan or protection plan. I'll have to check it out.

Most places offer at least a 30 day guarantee.. and reading at GameStop.com, all their pre-owned merchandise has a 7-day full refund or 30 day exchange. Or for $20 you can get a 2 year product replacement plan.

Looks like a 2 year replacement plan is in the works for me. One quick question, what consititutes a refurbished machine? Does that mean it's officially checked for issues by a qualified party? Or do they just say, "yep, it's good"??

Refurbished typically means that the machine went through a repair process. So for example, GameStop has both Pre-owned (with a guarantee) and Refurbished systems. Pre-owned means that the console was likely traded-in to them, they put it through their internal process of validating that the machine is functional and ready for a new customer. Refurbished means that the console had to be sent out for repair work before getting the console ready for resale. Honestly, between pre-owned and refurbished, you may actually be better off with a refurbished box since you know it was given a full repair and cleaning. However, in the end it doesn't really make any difference at all in the price.

Yeah, I'd feel a bit better knowing there was a bit of a repair process rather than them just reselling a used box. I know when I turned my last one in, they basically made sure it powered up and that's about it.
