Gaming Ethics and Friends

I've been thinking about how this group has been so awesome and also while I would love to see our site get really big, I also like how small and close knit we all seem to be. I really do enjoy gaming with you all and look forward to many sessions down the road.

Something has been bugging me lately and I've been searching for an answer to it. Awhile back Mitch and I started boosting Far Cry 2. We spent many nights trading kills between the two of us. Anyway, along the way we were able to sucker talk JPW and Dudette to join us. It's been going on for quite some time and I've been losing steam pretty quickly. I had completed the game on April 16 with help from the people mentioned above and appreciate it dearly. My problem is this, I'm feeling like I need to bow out of the sessions gracefully but I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or seem like I'm abandoning them. It would be totally different if we all started at the same time but we didn't and I think I've come to be ok with that. I actually have talked to a couple of the parties involved and I've gotten positive feedback from them. But just wondering what everyone else thought?

Along the same lines, we've started GoW 2 and GoW 3 with the group and I intend and hope that we all stick it out until every one of us gets the MP achievements. (and campaign too) GoW 3 might be a tougher one but we'll see how that goes. I think we should at least get all the DLC that we can and then go from there. Annex has been a pain but in my mind, the rest of GoW 2 MP achievements don't seem that difficult but that could depend on connectivitiy.

I've been thinking about my next games and what direction I'm going to go in terms of single player stuff. Next month starts out the first month of the To-Do List challenge so I'm thinking I'll use that as a motivator and do as much as I can in those 5 games when I'm not boosting or playing co-op. The other option would be to pick 5 games at random from my list and work on those specifically. Then again I thought about just focusing on my older games and the MP in those.

Speaking of the To-Do List Challenge.... I was just curious if anyone has played Dead Rising and/or have completed it? If so, how long would you say it took you?

Found out I'll be taking my vacation the week following Memorial Day so that I'm super psyched for. It'll also give me a good chance to jump start my To-Do List challenges. I'm also taking the 10th of June off for my wifes birthday but that's going to be a surprise so shhhh! :p

Dead Rising is a fun game. I really enjoyed it and plan on eventually going back to try and finish it up. I would defintiely use a walkthrough, though. It can be tough without knowing exactly where to go and when.

I think we can all appreciate that at a certain point we can all get a bit burned out on a particular game. This is especially true where we've accomplished our goals, want to help out others, but ultimately the fun-factor is waning. Once something starts to feel like work or an obligation, rather than something enjoyable and to look forward to, then it's time to bring it up.

We all joined together because we enjoy gaming as a group, rather than going at things solo or with an ever-changing group of random people. Also, we're self-professed casuals -- not in the derogatory sense -- so we recognize that our end-goal with gaming is to have fun while accomplishing achievements that separately we probably wouldn't be able to get. Heck, I was probably one of the first people to bring up my growing boredom with our old Friday night Gears 1 sessions because all we were doing was boosting the Seriously stuff, which I knew would take me over 2 years to complete at that rate.

Realistically, I think as long as we all keep honest and open communication about things, we'll be fine. As the person who probably accumulates achievements at the slowest pace, I would say that I am totally fine with the way we've handled helping each other so far. The best thing we can do is be up front about expectations. But then again, I'm pretty laid back and by no means am a game completionist -- I'd rather just have a good time with whatever game I'm playing... which is why I have a lengthy trail of incomplete games.

I hear you Jamie and thanks for the feedback. I started Far Cry 2 and that was quite the grind but once I gained the said accomplishment my goal was to get Mitch to the same point. Unfortunately for him he had a lot more negative xp to get than me but he made it. I think I've pretty much determined that once he gets the Warlord achievement & completion I'm probably going to put this one to bed. Greg has offered to keep the Far Cry 2 going with Dudette and ChiT0wn so I don't feel as bad because that's more than Mitch and I started with.

As for GoW 2, I like that there are so many different modes to play. To me, that keeps it fresh. I don't really see that one getting too repetitive because of Horde mode and the different MP types. Same goes for GoW 3. When we've completed the Raam's Shadow DLC, we've still got Fenix Rising and some of the base game achievements which include Horde and I believe some Beast Mode.

And I agree that we've done well. I really haven't been concerned with any of the Gears, it was more Far Cry related but that's good to know too. I think once we get to a certain point I'd love to switch things up a bit. Maybe alternate games or have a Monday or Friday night where we basically just vote on what to play and if we have 2 separate groups, so be it. Not sure how everyone else feels but I feel it might add some freshness to the groups. I have been having a good time with the Gears and Far Cry sessions mostly... the connection stuff is annoying but seems like it's been better lately.

Speaking of those sessions, I'm thinking about playing on my X1 because last night Mitch was on the 360 and I was on the X1 and we played GoW 2 MP with no issues and actually connected right away. *shrug*

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I'll have to look to see if TA has one and where the achievement I need would be. lol

We've already discussed this so I won't rehash it. I will simply say that you're character speaks for itself.

Game on!

Did the 360 backcompat party chat stuff work? If so, maybe I'll kick off the install on my X1 when I get home from work and try it out.

It did, I was actually thinking about playing on my X1 tonight. Mitch was on his 360 and when we joined the party he said that I was super clear at which point I told him I was on my X1.

If you do install it, you're going to have to install all the DLC as well. I'm sure you already know how to do that but if not just go to the game and click the menu button on the controller and choose manage game. You should see the DLC on the right hand side at which point you'll have to install each one. I didn't notice any lag or delay in performance so I think we should be good.

Ugh... I remember going through the DLC install stuff last time, that was painful. Maybe I'll just get it started, so next time I can use it.

From what I remember it went pretty quick but I've got to be honest, I wasn't paying the closest attention.

Well the bigger issue is that it requires one to initiate each DLC download, meaning you need to be near the controller... which I won't be.

Yeah, that would make sense. Couldn't you queue them all up when you initiated the download? I think I pretty much clicked on each one and told it to install and then played a game.

I feel like last time it didn't give me the option, I would select a DLC to install and then it would stay stuck on the download screen with the only button option to press being 'B to Cancel'
